A Note From
Walworth Recreation

It’s hard to imagine this is our first physical mailing of the Town Topics for over a full calendar year. We couldn’t be more excited for this to reach your mailboxes and hope it inspires the same feelings of hope, excitement, and eagerness that we enjoyed putting it together. The last year has only reinforced just how highly we regard our day-to-day interactions with the Walworth community and the unique, personal relationships a “small town” allows us to develop with friends young and old. As we usher in the Spring season we bring with it the anticipation of rekindling and re-establishing those ties we’ve missed so dearly since this time last year.

As we gear up for Spring and Summer (yes, it will be here before we know it!) programming we’re incredibly thankful to have Amelia DeVolder joining us as our new Recreation Leader! Amelia will be doing a little bit of everything for us and brings a strong recreation background and wealth of knowledge and experience. Be sure to look for her and say hello the next time you’re in the office or in the park!

Moving forward our programming cycle will follow a “four seasons” approach. With that in mind, this Town Topics is a little lighter than past Spring’s as Summer programming will begin in June (about a month earlier than previously considered Summer for programming purposes). Look for a Summer Town Topics mid-May, a Fall Town Topics mid-August, and a Winter Town Topics mid-November moving forward. Spring 2022 will then shift to a mid-February release.

Baseball and softball registrations opened early on March 19th. With printing for this edition of the Spring Town Topics later than we usually see we’re asking all of our baseball and softball families to please do us a HUGE favor and register as soon as possible for leagues. We have a much more condensed turn around time to get shirt, jersey, and hat/visor orders in. The sooner we can get everyone registered and compile size orders - the smoother our league creation process will be!

Our usual in-person parent meeting for baseball and softball leagues will shift to a “drive-thru pickup” this year. Both our Instructional programs will pick-up their materials Monday, April 26th from 6pm-6:45pm at the Lodge. Pee Wee and Tee Shirt will do the same the following day. If you can’t make either of those times don’t worry - we’ll have stuff for you on your first night (or you can always pick materials up at the Recreation Offices ahead of time). We’re hoping to lessen some of the burden for our wonderful volunteer coaches during the first evening at the fields by getting as much to our baseball and softball families ahead of time as possible!

We’ve had many inquires about Summer Day Camp and our Farm Market. Both will be back and better than ever! Summer Day Camps are planned for the weeks of July 12th, July 19th, July 26th, August 2nd, and August 9th. We’re hoping to run camp at full capacity - as of this publication we’re still awaiting NYS camp guidance. Our Market response has been fantastic! Along with all your favorite vendors we also have some exciting new additions and a full slate of food trucks planned for the season.

A new Town of Walworth website will be launching any day now. Be sure to take a minute to browse our new site! It’s a much needed update and refresher.

Lastly, we’d be remiss to not say a “Town Topics” thank you to our wonderful long-time clerk Linda Kleeman who’s moved over to the Wastewater Treatment Facility full time. She was an immeasurable part of our team and family and we wish her the absolute best (but let’s be honest we still bug her almost every day anyway!). Thank you Linda - we can’t say it enough!

We look forward to seeing everyone out and about this Spring!
